How to Attach and Use the GroundHog MAX in 15 Minutes

TIPS | JULY 06, 2026

If you've ever tried planting a food plot deep in the woods, creating a fire break on rugged terrain, or working ground that a tractor simply can't reach, you know the challenge. That's exactly why the GroundHog MAX was created.

The GroundHog MAX ATV/UTV Disc Plow is a game changer for hunters, land managers, homesteaders, and property owners who need serious ground-working capability without hauling a full-size tractor into difficult terrain. It is also perfect for those who own smaller tracts of land, and don’t need the added expense of full-size implements.

The MAX’s unique design uses the weight of your ATV or UTV to drive the discs into the soil, allowing you to create food plots, fire breaks, garden areas, and wildlife openings in places that were previously inaccessible. The best part? You can have your GroundHog MAX attached and ready to plow in less than 15 minutes.

Why Proper Setup Matters

Unlike traditional pull-behind implements, the GroundHog MAX is engineered to transfer the weight of your machine directly to the disc assembly. Proper attachment is essential to achieve maximum penetration and performance. Follow these simple steps to get the most from your GroundHog MAX.

Step 1: Elevate the Rear Tires

The first step is to elevate the rear tires of your ATV or UTV approximately four inches.

There are several ways to accomplish this:

  • Back the UTV/ATV onto a 4x4 block of wood, raise with a jack, or drive onto a raised section of dirt.

  • Position the rear tires on rocks

  • Once the rear axle is approximately four inches off the ground, engage the parking brake and prepare for installation.

This step is critical because it allows the GroundHog MAX to be adjusted correctly before transferring the vehicle's weight to the discs.

Step 2: Install the T-Head

Next, slide the T-head into your receiver hitch and secure it with the first tractor pin. One of the advantages of the GroundHog MAX is its adaptability to a wide variety of ATV and UTV models. The T-head can be installed in two different orientations:

  • Right-side up for machines with higher ground clearance

  • Upside down for machines with lower ground clearance

This flexibility helps ensure proper disc positioning regardless of the machine you're using.

Step 3: Adjust the Disc Assembly

Remove the second tractor pin and allow the disc assembly to slide naturally to the ground. It's important not to force the discs downward. Simply allow the assembly to settle on the ground under its own weight. Next, lift the disc assembly until it moves upward approximately two adjustment holes. Reinstall the second tractor pin in this position. At this setting, the discs should be suspended roughly one to two inches above the ground—a proven starting point for most soil conditions. Only one tractor pin is required to lock the adjustment in place.

Step 4: Transfer Weight and Begin Plowing

Now you're ready to put the GroundHog MAX to work. Release the parking brake and slowly move forward. If you used a jack to elevate the machine, simply lower the jack rather than driving forward. As the rear tires settle back onto the ground, the weight of the ATV or UTV transfers directly to the disc assembly, creating the downforce needed for aggressive soil penetration. One important note: Do not attempt to lift the rear of the machine manually to create down pressure. Doing so only stretches the suspension and will not provide the desired results. Once the weight has been transferred, remove any wood blocks, rocks, or jacks and begin plowing.

From Setup to Soil in Minutes

With the GroundHog MAX properly adjusted, you'll be amazed at what your ATV or UTV can accomplish. Users routinely create:

  • Deer food plots

  • Turkey habitat openings

  • Fire breaks

  • Garden plots

  • Trail improvements

  • Wildlife management areas

Because the GroundHog MAX can access areas that larger equipment simply cannot reach, you'll spend less time worrying about logistics and more time improving your property.

Dominate the Dirt

The GroundHog MAX has earned its reputation because it solves a problem that hunters and landowners face every season: how to work ground where tractors can't go. With a simple (less than 15 minute) installation process, along with a design that harnesses the weight of your machine, you can go from unloading your equipment to turning soil quickly and safely. Whether you're preparing your next trophy buck food plot or building a fire break to protect your property, the GroundHog MAX is built to help you dominate the dirt. Ready to put your ATV or UTV to work? The GroundHog MAX is waiting.
